Golden Retrieve dog or puppy vaccination schedule

The cliche an ounce of prevention is more better than a pound of cure also applies to your lovely Golden Retriever dog or puppy. Don’t wait for your Golden Retriever dog to get sick. Have your puppies or Golden Retriever dogs vaccinated against diseases. Vaccinations are more cheaper than having your dog treated for disease.

All Veterinarians agree that the immune system of your golden retriever has to learn to recognize an infection so it can produce the required antibodies to combat it. Only dog vaccination can do this combat. Unvaccinated Golden Retriever dogs or puppies can become very sick when attacked with a bacteria or virus because dog's immune system failed to respond very faster. Golden retriever vaccinations teach the immune system to react faster before the bacteria or virus can do damage.

When the golden retriever's mother is nursing, she is giving antibodies to her golden puppies. These antibodies will protect the puppy ones but not for long. Once the antibodies from the golden retriever's mother are gone, the puppy becomes an open target to a bacteria or virus and other many diseases.

Maternal antibodies given form golden retriever's mother, though, when still present in a puppy’s immune system, makes vaccinations useless. For this, vaccinations must be made in a series. Shots should be made 4 to 5 weeks apart. Vaccinations at 9, 13 and 17 weeks of pup's age plus annual boosters guarantee good health for your lovely golden retriever.

Recommended for golden retriever dogs is the standard DAAPPL. This standard combats parainfluenza, distemper, leptospirosis, parvovirus,  and hepatitis in golden retriever dogs. However cats are protected by FVRCP from panleukopenia, calicivirus,  and feline viral rhinotraceitis. These diseases are fatal and your golden retriever dog or puppy needs to be vaccinated against all of them.

Of course, rabies is a big concern too and vaccination is very very important fo your pet. At 16 weeks, your golden retriever puppy or kitten should be given rabies shot followed by an annual booster. Depending on the vaccine, the shot can be given to your dog every 3 years. The law requires that you have your golden retriever dogs or puppies vaccinated for rabies.

But even if the law doesn’t require rabies vaccination, it is always best to have your dog's vaccinated because it will not only protect pets from rabies but will also protect you, the owner, from legal issues. There are some cases when an otherwise healthy animal has to be euthanized because it was unvaccinated but later bitten by an unvaccinated pet.

Also, as you are a responsible Golden Retriever dog owner, be mindful of your pet’s lifestyle. The kind of lifestyle it leads exposes your dog to diseases in varying degrees. If you always enter your golden retriever in dog shows or if your pet goes to boarding kennels, vaccinations for bordetella and corona will greatly benefit the animal.
